10 Beatles Attractions in Liverpool

by Louise

The first thing that comes to mind when I think of Liverpool is the Beatles. And when I think of the Beatles I think of Liverpool. “In My Life” Liverpool is completely synonymous with the Beatles. That may seem strange to you but “We Can Work it Out.”

The “Two of Us” having both visited this iconic place for the very first time I was thrilled to finally experience all that this town holds. It’s a good thing we got a good night’s sleep “The Night Before.” It was exciting to be there + experience this era of music on the streets of Liverpool.

Of course there are tons of other amazing sites here + “It Won’t Be Long” before I write about them in another post, but starting with the Beatles is just the right thing to do. So for now we’ll just “Let it Be.”

I’ll start with the Ten Things on “The Long and Winding Road” I did in Liverpool relating to the Beatles:

#10 :: John Lennon’s statue

Where in the World is Louise? Liverpool :: Beatles :: John Lennon statue
Where in the World is Louise? Liverpool :: John Lennon statue

Straight-faced is not my best look [thanks, Roydio] + it looks like I’m mad in this pic HA! “But I Feel Fine!”

“This Boy” John looks pretty good, doesn’t he? Great photo op on Mathew Street :: I should have crossed my legs to emulate him! “I Saw Her Standing There” Why didn’t someone tell me?

There are several other statues around Liverpool of this iconic quartet named the Beatles. Makes you feel as though they are still walking around there… just “Don’t Bother Me” + let me dream, won’t you?

#9 :: Lennon’s Bar

Where in the World is Louise? Liverpool :: Lennon's Bar
Where in the World is Louise? Liverpool :: Lennon’s Bar

Lennon’s Bar has a ground floor + basement :: decorated with pictures of the Beatles + 60’s memorabilia. There are even some of John Lennon’s original drawings on the walls downstairs. It’s not located on “Penny Lane,” we’re still on Mathews Street.

A little dark + dingy but it certainly packs in the crowds. Entrance is free + they play all [DUH] 60’s music. Thursday is “Open Mic” night. “Hey Jude” you should join in!

#8 :: Beatles Shop on Mathews Street

Where in the World is Louise? Liverpool :: Beatles Shop on Mathews Street
Where in the World is Louise? Liverpool :: Beatles Shop on Mathews Street

A small, specialized + eclectic shop selling interesting Beatles’ items :: not too pricy + you may just find something you won’t find anywhere else. Maybe not “Norwegian Wood” but just about anything else. Right on Mathews Street where all the other Beatles’ action is. Worth stopping in to get in the mood for the Fab Four. Looking at this picture a little closer… “Tell Me What You See?” Could it be Five? HA!

They sell just about everything so “All You Need is Love…”

#7 :: Hard Day’s Night Hotel

The world’s only Beatles inspired hotel, “It’s Been a Hard Day’s Night” offers luxury accommodation. All 110 hotel rooms are individually designed + furnished with Beatles-inspired artwork specially commissioned by renowned artist Shannon “And I Love Her!”

Statues of John, Paul, George + Ringo adorn the corners of this historic building. Maybe they’re just hanging out + talking about “The Things We Said Today…”

 #6 :: S’GT Peppers

SGT Peppers bar + grill features live music everyday with a strong Beatles theme :: even down to “I Am The Walrus” on the wall. Upstairs you’ll find a Beatles-themed museum.

#5 :: Mathew Street Gallery

Where in the World is Louise? Liverpool :: Beatles :: Mathew Street
Where in the World is Louise? Liverpool :: Mathew Street

The temperatures were pretty nice here on our visit, most days were a little overcast as expected but we didn’t have any “Rain” + “Here Comes the Sun” as we walked around The Mathew Street Art Gallery which displays some of John Lennon’s art works + framed prints by Yoko Ono. The collection changes from time to time + everything is available for sale with prices ranging from 400EU to 6000EU. “Give Me Money, That’s What I Want” so I can buy one of these Beatles’ collectibles!

#4 :: Beatles statue

Donated by the famous Cavern Club they placed this Beatles’ statue near the Pier Head + Waterfront in 2015 in honor of the 50-year anniversary of the band’s last gig played in Liverpool at the Liverpool Empire Theatre. This is the city’s most popular selfie spot. Of course Roydio being a musician himself (did I not tell you?) had to take advantage of this photo op. I think he was secretly saying “I Wanna Hold Your Hand!” He blends in pretty well, doesn’t he? Well I guess the orange shoe laces kinda make him stand out a bit… HA!

The statue is actually a little larger than life-size + weighs an impressive 1.2 tons. But I’m surprised they didn’t include a little “Blackbird.”

#3 :: The Cavern Pub

On Mathew Street the Cavern Pub features an exterior wall with the names of all the artists who have played at the Cavern Club since it opened in 1957 including the Fab Four themselves. “Help” me “Get Back” to Mathew Street one day cuz that was so cool to see… as long as the “Taxman” doesn’t take all my money. “Tomorrow Never Knows…”

#2 :: Beatles’ Story

At the award-winning + world’s largest permanent Beatles’ museum, discover the Beatles’ Story + hear the personal stories behind one of the greatest bands of all time. Definitely “Something” Beatles’ fans must do when in Liverpool.

You can find it along the Mersey River where “I’ve Got a Ticket to Ride” the ferry to the other side.

#1 :: The Cavern Club

“The Word” is that this is the most famous club in the world where the Beatles’ popularity started :: they made 292 appearances at The Cavern Club from 1961 to 1963. Whaaaat? It is truly a cavern into which you have to climb down stairs + a very cool environment. Lots of Beatles’ memorabilia + pics :: the stage where they played is roped off :: other bands continue to play there. It was great fun hanging out here + feeling as though I was back in the days when the Beatles played their first gigs here. “It’s All Too Much” for me to take in in one day!

It was pretty amazing roaming around Liverpool, seeing where the Beatles got their start + where they played. I felt a little like a “Day Tripper.” Mathew Street is iconic. Inside the Cavern Club + Beatles Story + SGT Peppers played their music which added to the ambiance. If you’re a Beatles’ fan, visiting Liverpool is a must.

I’ll be writing about the other great sites in Liverpool because there is so very much more to that awesome city. I really enjoyed it + I know you will too! So promise me you’ll go? “Don’t Let Me Down!”

For now “Hello, Goodbye!”
